Title: Screenshots: Vintage Binary

Media: Mixed Media (random code generator, digital photography, analog photography – paper negatives shot in modified vintage cameras and self-developed in Caffenol – digital media)

Process: The concept behind this project was to capture randomly generated code with vintage photographic equipment. As these letterforms were originally too small in scale to be captured with the 60-70 year-old cameras (Kodak Brownie Hawkeyes with flipped lenses) they were first captured with a digital camera and extension tubes. These images were enlarged on a monitor so they became large enough to be re-photographed with the vintage equipment. The resulting paper negatives were developed in Caffenol, stopped with water, and fixed with salt water. These images were scanned and combined in Photoshop producing the attached motion experiment.
